Areas for improvement: Too Late out of production so can only increase in value
Thought I would be the first to review the car. Anyway I wanted a fun car as there are only 2 of us and we have got to the age where time means that if we are going to have some fun then we must do it sooner rather than later. I looked at nearly every 2 seater on the market and although most were very nice cars they all seemed to have one goal, to go as fast as they can. I test drove a SLK, MGF, BMW, MR2, Lotus and some were better than others but the actual running cost for a weekend car were way too high and I had all but given up finding a car until I went to test drive a Z3. Parked next to it was a Smart Roadster. Now a Z3 is a nice looking car but the Roadster stole all its glory. Both in gleaming black I jumped in the Z3 and took it for a spin but we spoke about the Raodster for the whole trip. Back to the garage and jumped straight into the roadster. What a car. Within 10 miniutes of the test drive a price was agreed snd I bought it. This may be a small car but once inside it is as big as you could want. It has everthing you could want or need. Unlike all the cars I have driven, you could retract the roof on the move, a massive plus for our English weather, it easily keeps up with the traffic and the tiny engine is a marvel that is willing and able. The gear box is the only drawback as the changes are slow but with a remap, some fiddling and learning how to use it then you have what I would call a 1960/70's real British sports car with all the mod cons you could want.
It seems to be a lot faster than it is but unlike most car shows on TV we have speed limits on our roads and this car will easily take you to the limits but feels like you are going twice as fast. The engine if driven propley is responsive and it is a classic car in the making. I have excellent fuel economy with an average between 43-50mpg, the servicing as with all cars is a lot cheaper at an independant and costs on average £180.00 for a full service and so far have only had to replace 2 tyr
The running costs for Smart Roadster Knotchback are very low
