The vanity plate 'F1' has sold for more than £440,000 at auction, setting a new British record.Businessman Afzal Khan, who owns Bradford tuning firm Khan Design - best known for doing inappropriate things with Range Rovers - smashed the previous record of £331,000 paid for the numberplate M1 just 18 months ago.

The F1 plate was first issued 104 years ago by the Essex Country Register of Motors. It was given back to the council in 1955, which used it most recently on a Volvo S80 owned by the c
