Areas for improvement: Electrics / Rust
If you buy one of these, at least make sure that it's the HP Executive model rather than the HPE. The Exec (from about 1984 and only for a brief period) has a fully galvanised body, so it won't rust like the rest. But the bits and pieces will still drop off, and new things will go wrong while the car is stationary being repaired...But they drive superbly (when going), and two people can sleep in comfort in them, and they look terrific. If you fall in love with one, indulge yourself, but be warned, and always carry a chequebook!
The design, especially the electrics, was hopeless in parts, but the car was the prettiest I've ever owned, even better than a 105 Alfa I had.

Areas for improvement: Lack of supportive seats
A fantastic car, I own two of these. It's a proper classic that you can buy with your heart and your head. The car is sporty - it has masses of torque, particularly helped in the lower rev ranges by the supercharger (max torque arrives at 3250 rpms), it handles amazingly, just a twitch of uncertainty in the turn in that disappears as you commit into the corner.
It can carry all your luggage as well, room in the back for two adults to sleep! Not too bad on fuel either, returning over 30mpg on motorway runs cruising around 80.And the best part is how it will show up modern kit. People comment on how quick the car is and then they find out its about 20 years old!
Only complaint is that the hpe doesn't come with the supportive recaro seats of the coupe, but I plan to transplant some in as soon as I get the chance.
