Areas for improvement: None really, great vehicle
The new Explorer has done a lot of work to bring luxury to the Ford lineup that was never truly there before outside of the minimal luxury in the Expeditions of the past. One of the major additions to the vehicle is the implementation of wood grain interior down the center panel, which features a disc changer, sirius satellite radio, and of course a navigation system.
Other features to the 4WD Explorer on the Limited package includes items such as fold away side mirrors with quick thaw so that you will easily be able to get going in the morning regardless of how fogged up your vehicle may be.
Another excellent internal feature is the perfect fit pedals which are completely adjustable for the individual rider. For me this was a major improvement that really added to my own personal comfort. Since I am so used to driving cars and racing, the addition of adjustable pedals allowed me to pull the pedals forward for a much more aggressive feel while in the seat. Just because I drive an Explorer doesn't mean I should feel like I am driving a bus.

Areas for improvement: Front door handles (poor ergonomics)
They redesigned the Explorer in 2005 and it is much better than the older 2002-2005 version like my relatives had. They updated the suspension and sound insulation to make it ride better and quieter.Having the independent suspension makes it handle better than our old jeep too. Don't get me wrong, I loved my Jeep, but this truck is impressive. The Explorer is probably faster than the Jeep overall, but it doesn't have the low end torque I was used to, it takes a lot more reving the engine around town to make speed.
After several longer distance trips, the power from the V-6 on the motorway is much better than around town because all of its horsepower and torque is top end.
Mileage has averaged from a high of 21.5 on interstate trips with speeds from 70-85, to a low of 17 when windy. City mileage however is terrible, averaging 12-14 depending on the weather.
My only complaint thus far is the front door handles being placed so low on the door panel. Ford has appeared to fixed the issue on 07 models however.
