Areas for improvement: Nice engine, refined
I have truly enjoyed this car in the last few months since I bought it. I have always wanted an Audi, and I am definitely looking forward to seeing how it handles in the winter. Before purchasing, I took it into my mechanic who specializes in EuroNice cars, and he couldn't recommend an Audi more - in fact, he even owns one. Can't beat that. Didn't know if I would like the 1.8 engine, at times is a little slow in 1st gear, but you start to feel quite a bit of power once in 2nd gear. Other than some blind spots, I think the car is great. The interior is well done, the body of the 2005 looks expensive and sporty.
So far so good, no problems with the car so far. Don't like how the heated seats stay on since they are manual. Have to remember to turn them off for next time I start the car. The mechanism to open the sun roof seems a little sketchy to me, plastic wheel and all, but hasn't broken yet!

Areas for improvement: Too many issues in total
The car has been in for unscheduled service 31 days since I bought it new. The repairs have been disappointing in the extreme. They have failed to notice or repair a problem that they say they have fixed. Most of the time it went in for repair, it came back with a different problem. They always said it was a new failure, but it just so happened to be in the area they were doing the previous work. Any way, it's a great car if it works. I have the front wheel drive version and drive 60% highway 40% city and get 29mpg overall. That is really great for a good performing quasi-luxury vehicle at these gas prices. That said, I'll get a Toyota next time, even though they are ugly. I have always had good luck with them.
The key less entry remote only works about 8 feet from the car.
The brake light went on and the engine stalled.
Both front blinker sockets corroded and failed.
The car makes a grinding noise at start every time.
The steering wheel was incorrectly installed from the factory.
The passenger side door's window motor assembly was not fastened from the factory.
The driver's side door handle stuck open.
The driver's side door has several items loose and rattling around.
The driver's side window does not go up all the way making significant wind noise.
The center console was missing a piece from the factory.
The left rear suspension rattles at low speeds.
The dash/ instrument panel malfunctioned a couple times.
I am probably forgetting some.

Areas for improvement: Climate control / rc
The performance from the 1.9TDI engine is amazing, particularly overtaking between 50 and 80mph - it just goes like a bullet. There is an enormous amount of torque, but you have to keep it within 1700 and 2500 rpm - outside of this band it can be a bit flat. If you move quickly, you really find yourself grabbing for the next gear, it's that quick. Performance is effortless. And yet, amazingly, on a long journey, it returns 53mpg and in day to day short journey driving 46mpg. The brakes are superb and the handling (standard electronic stability program ESP) is excellent. You can cover distances on poor enough roads very quickly and safely. The steering could be a bit more 'alive', but it's by no means a problem. Stability, at all speeds, is top notch.
The comfort levels are excellent. Climate control comes as standard which is great, you'll never have wet interior windows again! The seats are excellent and you emerge after a four hour journey totally relaxed. At cruising speeds, even over 100mph, this is one quiet machine. Add to this an excellent stereo and a very well finished, pleasing to look at interior and you couldn't ask for much more. Cream leather would really be classy, if you can afford the 2,500 demanded by Audi on the options list!
Running costs for a relatively prestigious and powerful car are low. Apart from the initial purchase price (a whisker under 40K) and the astronomical cost of Audi options (750 for metallic paint & 280 for a center armrest) the fuel economy and service intervals make the day to day running costs quite low. The car has an electronic brain that tells you when it needs a service based on the way you drive etc - mine is currently indicating 18,000 miles until its first service.
The quality of the car inside and out is just exceptional. The paint finish, panel gaps, way the doors thud shut are way above average. Indeed, I looked at the 320d and the C220D and there is no comparison, particularly with the interior. I wou
